In Conjunction with Child Protection Network (CPN) Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos State – PCI Participates in Sensitization / Advocacy to the Baale and People of Ilufemiloye Community

As part of activities to mark the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (TIP) on 9th August 2025, the Child Protection Network (CPN), in collaboration with Patriotic Citizen Initiatives (PCI), embarked on an advocacy and sensitization visit to the Baale of Ilufemiloye Community, a riverine settlement in Amuwo-Odofin LGA, Lagos State.

The Baale, along with key stakeholders including the Youth Leader, Market Women Leader, Igbo Community representatives, and the Councillor, warmly welcomed the delegation.

During the session, the team sensitized community members on the dangers of Trafficking in Persons, particularly as it affects children. Discussions included defining who a child is, outlining the rights of a child, and highlighting the need for community-wide awareness.

Participants openly shared experiences from within Ilufemiloye and nearby communities, acknowledging the urgent need for continued outreach. Key issues identified included:

  • Rampant child abuse and domestic violence in the community and neighbouring areas

  • Lack of a proper referral mechanism for victims

  • The need to engage other stakeholders from adjoining communities

CPN fliers were distributed during the visit to both meeting attendees and other residents along the way. The advocacy ended with a shared commitment to integrate the Baale and other stakeholders into ongoing CPN activities in Amuwo-Odofin.

The event was impactful, and plans are underway for further engagements to reach more members of the community.

Together, we remain committed to safeguarding children and promoting safer communities.
